Job Overview

The University of Cincinnati invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher position in Industrial Heat Pump (IHP) technology as part of a Department of Energy (DOE) funded project. The successful candidate will work on advancing high-temperature heat pump systems integrating phase change materials (PCM) and wet compression technologies. This research aims to enhance energy efficiency and performance in industrial settings.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct advanced research on high-temperature IHPs, focusing on multi-stage compression and PCM thermal energy storage integration. 
  • Develop, model, and simulate heat pump systems to evaluate performance, energy efficiency, and operational capabilities. 
  • Design and execute experiments, analyze data, and optimize system parameters to achieve project goals. 
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of researchers, industrial partners, and stakeholders. Prepare research findings for publication in peer-reviewed journals and present at scientific conferences. 
  • Assist in preparing progress reports and proposals related to ongoing research efforts.

Minimum Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Energy Systems, or a related field (completed within the last 3 years or anticipated by the start date).
  • Strong background in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and refrigeration/heat pump technologies.
  • Experience with computational modeling and simulation tools (e.g. MATLAB, EES ANSYS, etc.).
  • Proven track record of publications in relevant areas of research.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Experience with high-temperature heat pumps, wet compression, or phase change materials.
  • Familiarity with DOE-funded research projects and reporting requirements.
  • Background in experimental setups and lab-scale testing of thermal systems.
