Physical Therapy Assistant
PRN/Part Time - Up to 15 visits weekly
This position sees all VA & Ortho patients in Pinellas County

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) for PRN to join our team of skilled home health care providers. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to providing quality care. Working under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist, you will provide physical therapy services to patients in their own homes, delivering therapeutic exercises, and providing patient education to ensure effective and safe care in a home environment.

  Job Description Summary:

  •   Assists in development and implementation of the interdisciplinary client care plan as it pertains to Physical Therapy
  • Treats clients to relieve pain, develop or restore functional and maintain maximum performance, using physical means, such as exercise, massage, heat, light and electricity
  • Teaches, supervises, and counsels the family and client in the physical therapy program
  • Instructs client in care and use of adaptive devices such as: wheelchairs, braces, crutches, canes and prosthetic and orthotic devices
  • Arranges for out-patient service for procedures when appropriate
  • Records on a timely basis all treatments, and client's response to therapy intervention Also records quality assurance data
  • Communicates with PT and other team members (including Home Health Aides), when appropriate. Instructs them in certain phases of physical therapy that they may use while working with the client
  • Under the direction of a Physical Therapist, writes clinical/progress notes on the date of the visit and incorporates same in the client's record according to company policy
  • Participates in case conferences, physical therapy staff meetings, agency activities and in-service programs as necessary.
  • Participates in effective coordination of schedule to ensure all reassessments are performed in a timely manner
  • Obtains a medical history, particularly as it relates to the present condition
  • Identifies possible ineffective drug therapy or adverse reactions, significant side effects, drug allergies, and contra-indicated medication and reports same to the PT
  • O bserves, and records activities and findings in the clinical record and reports to the PT and the physician any adverse reaction to treatment
  • Participates with staff, clients, and physicians in discharge activities and assists the Physical Therapist in completing the Physical Therapy Discharge Summary

Position Qualifications

· Must be licensed by the State as a Physical Therapist Assistant
· Must be a graduate of an approved school giving a course of not less than two years for Physical Therapist Assistants
· Must have one year of experience in an acute/sub-acute setting
· The ability to drive and the ability to access clients’ homes, which may not be routinely wheelchair accessible are required
· Hearing, eyesight, and physical dexterity must be sufficient to perform a physical assessment of the client's condition and to perform client care
·  May be required to bend, stoop, reach and move client weight up to 250 pounds, lift and/or carry up to 30 pounds
