Job Description

What You Will Be Doing
This position plays a key role in directing and coordinating daily field operations in the Chugach Region. This direction may include supporting visitor services, coordinating maintenance activities, serving as an agency liaison with stakeholder groups and agency partners, permitting, and miscellaneous administrative functions that support the Region. With minimal supervision, this position is expected to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing, independently establish workload priorities, and supervise three Park Specialist 1s.

The Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation provides outdoor recreation opportunities and conserves and interprets natural, cultural, and historic resources for the use, enjoyment, and welfare of the people.

Core Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Serves as a liaison with local stakeholder groups.
  • Preparing letters and technical documents, including permits.
  • Reviewing Park management plans.
  • Hiring and supervising through subordinates Host and Volunteer staff in the Region.
  • Acts as the Regions Safety Officer.
  • Coordinate park maintenance activities.
  • Ensures functionality of electronic fee stations.
  • Assess operations for efficiency and effectiveness and make recommendations for improvement.

The Working Environment You Can Expect
This position will be located in the Chugach Region headquarters office, 18620 Seward Hwy. The incumbent will be located in an office with other DPOR staff and will have the option for partial telework. The work environment in all DNR and DPOR offices is casual, friendly, and supportive.

Definitions:

For purposes of the minimum qualifications, natural resource management is defined as the management of the land, water, mineral, forest, oil, gas, agricultural, archaeological, natural and cultural history, park, and related surface and subsurface resources. Experience or education in natural resource management means involvement in the above resources exclusively. Those with experience or education in managing these resources may specialize in different management functions (for example, planning, regulation, research or title). All of this experience is applicable to the natural resource management definition. Some positions may require education in a particular area of natural resource management or specific technical knowledge and training gained through specialized education or progressively greater responsibilities at the lower levels of the series.
