Job Description

Overview Holy Family Classical School seeks a dedicated, mission-driven High School Humanities Teacher who is committed to forming Christian disciples through a classical, Catholic education. The Humanities Teacher will teach Holy Family's High School curriculum in History and/or Theology. The curriculum is chronologically based, with Ancient in 9th, Medieval in 10th, Modern in 11th, and United States in 12th. Literature is taught alongside History and Theology by another teacher. The teacher will actively participate in building a Christ-centered classroom that fosters a love for truth, goodness, beauty, and unity in alignment with the school's mission. As a ministerial role, this position involves modeling Catholic virtues and integrating faith across all subject areas. Founded by Saint Katharine Drexel over 125 years ago, Holy Family Classical School provides an exceptional Catholic and classical education in the spirit of our saintly foundress. Key Responsibilities Instructional Practices & Methods

  • Integrate Catholic values into all lessons, guiding students to see Christ in their learning and inspiring a deeper relationship with Him.
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of subject matter and classical teaching methods that promote engagement, curiosity, and a sense of wonder.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional methods, including Socratic dialogue, memorization of classical texts, and interactive discussions, to engage diverse learning styles and ensure deep comprehension.
  • Communicate lesson objectives clearly, structuring information in a way that builds connections to previous knowledge and fosters wisdom.
Student Engagement
  • Encourage active participation and intellectual curiosity, guiding students in meaningful dialogue and inquiry.
  • Inspire students to seek truth, goodness, and beauty in their studies and make connections across disciplines.
  • Assess and nurture students' understanding, challenging them to develop not only academically but also spiritually and morally.
Classroom Management
  • Implement positive discipline based on virtue ethics, fostering respect, discipline, and joy in the classroom community.
  • Establish routines and expectations that promote respect, discipline, and virtue, helping students grow as responsible and compassionate individuals.
  • Model patience, humility, and charity, creating a positive and supportive environment for all students.
  • Apply rules consistently and fairly, fostering a safe, trusting classroom atmosphere.
Lesson Planning & Assessment
  • Align lesson objectives and activities with the school's mission and Catholic teaching, including Catholic Social Teaching.
  • Plan and implement lessons that encourage deep understanding, critical thinking, and an appreciation for the interconnectedness of all knowledge.
  • Maintain an organized, timely gradebook that reflects student mastery and growth through meaningful assessments.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs, ensuring each student is appropriately challenged and supported.
Collegiality, Communication, & Professionalism
  • Communicate proactively with parents regarding student progress, especially for students who need additional support, fostering a partnership in the student's educational and spiritual growth.
  • Provide clear, respectful updates, working with parents to reinforce the school's mission and values at home.
  • Serve as a positive, faithful witness of Catholic values in interactions with colleagues, students, and parents.
  • Collaborate actively with faculty and administration to support and strengthen the school's Catholic mission and promote unity within the community.
  • Participate in professional development that enhances both instructional practices and the integration of faith and academic formation, continually seeking growth in the classical, Catholic educational model.
Qualifications
  • A practicing Catholic in good standing who joyfully strives to live according to Christ's teachings and the Church's mission.
  • Bachelor's degree in theology, history, or a related field; Master's degree and/or teaching certification preferred, or willingness to pursue certification.
  • Familiarity with classical pedagogy or willingness to learn and implement classical teaching methods.
  • Ability to create an engaging, Christ-centered learning environment that supports students' spiritual and intellectual development.
  • Strong classroom management skills, organizational abilities, and a commitment to Catholic education's values.
Additional Requirements
  • Willingness to participate in school events, meetings, and liturgies as needed outside of regular hours.
  • Maintain diocesan VIRTUS/Child Youth Protection certification (ongoing annually) and other diocesan requirements.
